How Cacao changed my life
I attended my first Cacao Ceremony in 2019 and fell in love with the experience. The open hearted bliss, emotional release and deep connection I felt in my first ceremony was so powerful and special, I knew immediately I wanted to share this experience so others could benefit from it.
- Meaningful Connection
When I embarked on recovery, healing and especially after my spiritual awkening, I lost interest in social activities like hanging out in cafes, bars and partying. I was desperately looking to connect in more authentic and meaningful ways, being in ceremony allowed me to do that.
- Emotional Release
Although the taste of ceremonial cacao was too strong and bitter intially, I felt drawn to this gentle medicine from the start. In 2020, I started to slowly build a daily routine and ritual with her. I noticed that I as I drank my cacao each morning, 70% of the time I would have an emotional release, even till today. I realised on hindsight, that Mama Cacao was breaking open my heart, one layer at a time.
- Ability to Feel, Awaken Subtle Senses
Once numb and disconnected, Mama Cacao was teaching me how to feel again. Sadness, grief, anger, happiness, joy, I cried tears of all variety. I began to become more aware of my subtle senses, and feeling the nurturing energy from the earth has carried me through challenging times.
- Inner Landscape Exploration
Cacao has also been a great help with exploring my inner landscape. In addition to feeling and emotional release, many times, I have received clarity, tapping into the wisdom of my inner knowing.
- Emotional and Spiritual Healing
Cacao in ritual and ceremonies is great for emotional and spiritual healing. Today’s modern world only focuses on the physical and mental, we believe we are only our bodies and brain. We have neglected the emotional and spiritual aspects of Self. This often leaves us with a gaping hole that we try to fill with substances, food, work, validation etc. When I began to heal the emotional and spirtual aspects of Self, my need for coping strategies – alcohol, cigarettes, material sucesss etc. began to fall away.
Why do we want to move out of our heads into our hearts?
In the cluttered noisy space of our minds, dis-ease arises. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic fatigue/pain have become more common. Most of us in fast paced societies are overwhelmed and stressed, with a to-do list constantly in our minds.
When trapped in our minds, we are disconnected from how we feel. These emotions that we distract ourselves from and suppress, don’t get released and over time, begin to show up as physical dis-ease and symptoms.
I grew up believing having emotions meant weakness. I never knew how to process my emotions in a healthy way. I never heard about nervous system regulation. I was terrified of ‘catching feelings’. So each time I felt discomfort, I reached for a drink. Maybe for you it’s turning to food, excessive scrolling or a need to keep yourself constantly occupied. What a tiring way to live!
When we begin to move into our hearts, we begin to get in touch with how we feel. As we allow ourselves to feel, and learn healthy ways to process our emotions and regulate our nervous system, we gain confidence in handling life and any setbacks. We begin to tap into our intuition and trust our inner knowing.
When we are in the open-hearted state, we are calm, curious, connected, compassionate, confident, courageous and clear. These are the 7 Cs as described by Richard Schwartz, founder of the Internal Family Systems Model.
Navigating changing times
With so much chaos in the external world, it’s easy to get caught in despair and gloom. This is why it is even more important now for us to open our hearts and begin to navigate from our heartspace. It is our ability to be comfortable with discomfort and change that will allow us to move through these times with ease and grace.
The gentle heart opening medicine of Cacao has greatly aided me and continues to do so.
Cacao Ceremony is one of my favourite healing tools. Both as a facilitator and participant, I receive so much from each ceremony. It instantly shifts me out of my head, bring more calm and connection. In a disconnected world, such spaces are precious. It is the heart medicine you don’t know you need, until you try it.
If this has sparked your curiousity, small group cacao ceremony is now available 3 times a week in Tiong Bahru. Learn more about cacao and book your spot here.
